After going through the books ChiRunning and ChiWalking I have decided to change some of the aspects I teach about posture section. So before here come some more changes and updates in ChiRunning book I would like to tell you that what is the most up to date way to align your posture. posture correction I myself is following this pattern for past 6 months and feeling comfortable in walking and running now. If we follow ChiRunning and ChiWalking books then we have to stand with out feet at a distance equal to our hip width and must avoid knees locking. After this step we move forward toward spine straightening step and here we can make some change. We used to have you place one hand over your belly and the thumb and middle finger of the other hand spread apart and placed just under your collarbone. Pull the body downwards by using your lower hand and straighten your upper body part by lifting it with upper hand placed at upper area. Now just use your index finger to hold your chin upward and to align it with head and neck region. posture correcting It is here from where various problems arise in this method as different people has long neck with short index finger and some have long index finger with short neck so it can be different from case to case. One person’s chin would be too low and another’s would be too high. It seems also uncomfortable to align yourself while moving. So, I needed to come up with a way that everyone would be able to get their head in the right alignment without the use of their hands. So see that how easily you can do it. No put the hand on the neck back and brush with the fingers in an upside direction. Now you have to move towards upper direction as you are just trying to reach the sky with your head crown. This motion will stretch all the muscles on the back of your neck and allow your chin to naturally stay low. You can use this practice to make your upper spine strong and can do it without using your hands. Today every person present in my walking and running classes follow this exercise easily. You have to begin with your correct poor posture status and then move on to rising your head slowly which will make your spine straight and lengthen your neck back area. Such practice will make you strengthen your posture quickly and will help to lighten your foot step by preventing the downward motion of your upper body region. You just have to keep your neck in correct posture and the spine will move to its position itself. You can make your shoulders relax and can level your pelvis easily through this exercise. It is an important step of ‘C’ shape, a concept I am following and teaching myself not mentioned in ChiRunning book at all. While having a look over ChiRunning Posture Image you will see that ‘C’ shape is super imposed on it subject. Look the direction of arrows which start from T12/L1 position and then move oppositely. In ‘C’ shape you will see arrow in upper part will point towards upside showing the lengthening of neck back area while other points through the front of head region and end at chin area. If you see the lower section of ‘C’ shape you will see arrows pointing towards the tail bone, returning back to pelvic area and end at the point of public bone. Practice getting yourself into the “C” shape whenever you feel your posture slipping…whether you’re sitting at your desk, standing, walking or running. It’ll have the amazing effect of bringing your mind and your body together, because you’ll be engaging your core in the midst of your activity and bringing yourself to the “center” of your experience. Your posture is the absolute keystone of all your movement and structural support. Having a strong posture implies having strong center which keeps your emotional and mental balance at optimal level. So keep practicing to correct you posture as your whole life depends upon it.
